How To Prepare for an LSAT

Preparing for the LSAT begins long before it is time to take the test. You should begin by taking the classes needed for law school. The classes you should take or the skills you should acquire include analytic & problems solving skills, critical reading abilities, general research skills, oral communication & listening abilities, task organization & management skills, and values of serving others & promoting justice. The top classes that will help prepare you for a law degree include political science, social sciences, economics, business, math, science, and language. The most important class you should take is the 650:045 Elementary Logic. This will help you in learning critical thinking skills.

The LSAT is the exam given to individuals that wish to attend Law School. The exam has five sections with 25 questions per section. The test will take 35 minutes per section. One of the sections covers reading comprehension, another section covers analytical questions, two sections cover logical reasoning, and the last one could be any of the above.

The exam is given four times throughout the year, which is in June; another one is September or October, December, and February. You must register with the Law School Admission Council in order to take the exam.

Now, that you know the classes you will need to help prepare you for law school and have hopefully completed these classes and registered for the exam, you are now ready to study for the LSAT. You should study the entire month prior to the exam, not just one or two days, but several hours per week. The best way to study for the LSAT is to purchase a couple of LSAT prep books or study one at your local library. In some cases, the library will not allow these to leave the premises, so you will have to study there or purchase on at a bookstore. Not every store will have the LSAT prep book available. Studying this prep book will give you the chance to study tips and answer the different types of questions that are in each section.

Another great way to prepare for the LSAT is to take a commercial preparation class. However, the cost of the classes is quite expensive, around $1200, so you may wish to study on your own or with a friend.

You can find several locations of preparation courses by contacting your local library. The courses are not available year round, so it is best to find one nearby long before you are ready to take the test if you wish to study in the manner. In most cases, the courses are given in large metropolitan areas, so you may have to travel quite a ways in order to attend.

If you plan to study on your own there are a few resources you use such as 30 Days to the LSAT by Mark Stewart, Kaplan LSAT, Princeton Review has several study aids, How to Prepare for the Law School Admission Test by Barron, and the LSAT/LSDAS registration and information book.
